Ideas for holidays, weekends and trips in Thiers and its surroundings
Thiers is a fascinating town with a long and rich history, so there will be much to see and do here during your stay! The Musée de la Coutellerie (knife-making museum), which consists of three buildings in the town centre, is the ideal place to start your exploration of Thiers. Here, you can discover the history of Thiers' knife-making industry and the actual process of knife-making, as well as see the fruits of the town's labour for yourself. Le Creux de l'Enfer, a former knife-making factory, is now a contemporary art museum, and regularly hosts exhibitions and installations, so check and see what's on while you're here. After finding out about all this culture and history, you'll no doubt have worked up an appetite, and luckily Thiers is also well-known for its regional dishes! Thiers is famed for its pork dishes, so why not try rapoutet (ham hock served with potatoes and cabbage) or Arconsat sausages made with pork and cabbage? Cheese is also an important part of Thiers' gastronomy, with the two main types being gaperon, made with garlic and pepper, and chèvreton, a type of goat's cheese made in the mountains.
